Using NCTS:

To use this system you need to buy specialised software, or develop software that is compatible with NCTS. The costs and time constraints involved can be high, so if yours is a smaller business it may be more cost effective to use NCTS web channel. See the page in this guide on web channel and NCTS.

If you buy or develop software, you must ensure it's fully compatible with NCTS. Download the technical interface specification (TIS) for phase 3.2 of NCTS from the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) website (PDF) - Opens in a new window. You can also download the TIS appendices for phase 3.2 of NCTS from the HMRC website (PDF) - Opens in a new window.

HMRC provides a test service where you can check that your software is compatible before you start using it. They also provide a technical pack if you want to develop your own NCTS system. Find contact details for NCTS testing and technical information on the HMRC website - Opens in a new window.

A number of businesses have developed - or are developing - software solutions for NCTS. Read the list of NCTS software developers on the HMRC website - Opens in a new window. If you develop your own software, you need to contact the HMRC New Computerised Transit System "Live Service" Helpdesk on Tel 01255 244 709 before you connect to the NCTS system for the first time.
