Lifting equipment can include cranes, forklift trucks, hoists and mobile elevating work platforms. If your business operates such equipment you must comply with a number of requirements.
Generally speaking, you must ensure that the equipment is:sufficiently strong and stable for use, and marked with the safe working load as well as other safety information positioned and installed so that it prevents the risk of injuries
used safely - work must be planned, organised and performed by competent people maintained regularly examined by a competent person, both before use and at regular intervals thereafter used so that it doesn't endanger other employees, customers and visitors
For information on these requirements, You may also need to provide personal protective equipment or clothing to employees who use lifting equipment - but only if risks can't be reduced in any other way Remember to consider potential hazards caused by lifting equipment when you conduct your health and safety risk assessment.
