There are an increasing number of waste agreements between government organisations and industry. These aim to encourage businesses to choose waste options that have less impact on the environment.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has voluntary agreements with the newspaper and magazine publishing and direct mail marketing industries to use recycled paper and promote recycling. The Waste and Resources Action Plan (WRAP) Courtauld Commitment is a voluntary programme with retailers and suppliers to reduce packaging waste and find solutions to food waste. The Environment Agency has set out guidance on waste management plans, including legal requirements and good practice, for the cement, chemicals and dairy farming industries.
